President Bola Tinubu, in a statement on Tuesday, vowed that his administration would completely defeat terrorists causing mayhem across Nigeria.

Mr Tinubu stated this hours after three suicide bombers detonated deadly explosives at the Main Market, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and a flyover close to a post office, all in Maiduguri, the Borno capital.

The president described the news of the Maiduguri incident as “profoundly upsetting”, while condoling with the families of those who were killed, and sympathising with the victims.

“I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil and spread fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies operating in various theatres,” Mr Tinubu said.

The president commended Nigerian troops for successfully repelling recent coordinated attacks by terrorists on military positions in Borno State.

“The Monday attacks were desperate acts of the evil-minded terrorist groups. Our gallant military and civilian task forces will curtail and put them down,” Mr Tinubu said.

He noted that during a security meeting with leaders of security and intelligence agencies last week, he had approved additional equipment and operational support to enhance their capabilities.

Mr Tinubu said he had directed security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation, and also directed emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured.

“There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety. We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them. Nigeria will not succumb to fear,” Mr Tinubu said.
