The farmers said the high cost and limited availability of fertilisers and other essential farm inputs had become major constraints as the rainy season commenced.
“If we sold vegetables at lower prices before, they will now become more expensive because farmers must recover their losses,” she said.
She said plant-based proteins were critical to building sustainable food systems.
The initiative is being implemented through the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
Vegetable, maize and cassava farms in parts of Ikorodu, Ojo, Imota and Epe have remained waterlogged for days following sustained rainfall.
“For us to unlock the true economic and food security potential of our livestock sector, we must systematically eliminate the threat of PPR,” he said.
He said NALDA targets establishing mega farm estates across the six geopolitical zones to address challenges affecting agricultural production and create modern farming communities.
