The NAICOM boss said the initiative aimed to strengthen resilience and productivity in agriculture, targeting a total of 3.6 million farmers by 2026.
The chairman argued that subsidising farm inputs was more beneficial than grain importation.
According to him, the inputs were for the 2024 season, while those for 2025 were being processed.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Abubakar Kyari said the goal is to increase food production and strengthen Nigeria’s food security.
The federal government has distributed agricultural inputs and equipment to smallholder farmers in Bauchi.
The federal government, through the agriculture ministry, distributed the inputs to the small-scale farmers in Enugu on Thursday.
“This is also part of the federal government’s effort towards addressing the underlying challenges impacting the attainment of national food security goals,” he noted.
According to Mr Kyari, the initiative is aimed at increasing agricultural production.
Agriculture minister Abbubakar Kyari says the federal government has prioritised agriculture as the backbone of Nigeria’s economy.
Mr Rabiu-Mudi added that the new digital ID card would authenticate farmers’ membership.
