The suspension by NANNM followed a virtual emergency meeting of its national executive council.
“Breastfeeding is not just food; it’s a newborn’s first vaccine and the first means of survival,” UNICEF chief of nutrition, Ms Hajeebhoy said.
WHO stated that the achievement was part of a broader push to bolster local production capacity.
NAFDAC has urged governments, institutions, and communities to create an enabling environment that protects and promotes breastfeeding.
UNICEF noted that data from the 2023–2024 National Demographic and Health Survey revealed troubling trends in optimal breastfeeding practices.

She said the intervention targeted children between three and 59 months, the most vulnerable due to weaker immune systems.
“Our demands include the gazetting of the nursing scheme of service approved since 2016 and the creation of a Department of Nursing in the Federal Ministry of Health,” said NANNM.
“Hepatitis is the inflammation of the liver, with variants A, B, C, D, and E. The most dangerous among them are the B and C variants,” he explained.
The federal government has called for enhanced collaboration, private sector investment, and financially sound proposals to boost blood services nationwide.
