U.S. President Donald Trump has met his Irish counterpart, Catherine Connolly, as part of his ongoing two-day trip to Ireland.

Mr Trump also met with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin at the Farmleigh Estate amid tight security.

Mr Trump and Ms Connolly were seen observing the national anthems of both countries at in Dublin’s Phoenix Park.

The U.S. president was also invited for an inspection as a guard of honour presented arms.

Among several guests at the residence of the U.S. ambassador to Ireland, Edward Walsh, ahead of Mr Trump’s arrival were erstwhile Irish premiers Bertie Ahern and Enda Kenny.

Mr Trump, who would make a speech at Deerfield in Phoenix Park, was expected to travel across the country.

His two-day visit to Ireland came despite a series of protests against Mr Trump in the country.

Prior to the visit, Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly had warned protesters against intolerance that would affect Mr Trump’s movement in the country.

“We have robust policing plans in place and will arrest and prosecute those committing offences,” Mr Kelly stated.

In a conversation with Mr Martin, Mr Trump said the U.S. has a great relationship with Ireland.

“It has never been as good as it is right now. The relationship is a very profitable one for Ireland, less profitable for us to be honest with you,” he stated.

Ms Connolly welcomed Mr Trump into Ireland despite making critical statements about him in the past.
