Two killed in stampede as Gov Bago allegedly distributes cash in Government House
At least two people, including a child, have been killed in a stampede during an event involving Governor Umar Bago in Minna. Several others were injured.
The stampeded occurred on Tuesday at Government house in Minna as Mr Bago was handing out cash to the residents.
The governor’s spokesman, Ibrahim Bologi, has been contacted for comment.
“Two people from Allawa, who were displaced from their homes as a result of insecurity, are reportedly among those who lost their lives in a stampede that occurred at the Government House in Minna on Tuesday night,” a source told People Gazette.
Another resient familiar with the incident said, “But it was money that he was sharing for them and the injured victims are now in Minna General Hospital receiving treatment.”
In a video obtained by The Gazette, the Government House was filled with residents and others shouting in protest.
“No matter the amount Bago would share. We don’t want him. Nami we want,” a voice said.
The police spokesman in Niger, Wasiu Abiodun, did not immediately respond to request for comment.
