A United States actress Selma Blair was on Sunday arrested for allegedly attacking flight attendants on a plane flight from Los Angeles to New York.

The 54-year-old Legally Blond star’s arrest followed a summons issued to her over the alleged assault, following an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The New York Port Authority stated that airport officials responded to a call on Sunday about “a physically abusive passenger” on the flight, that witnessed two flight attendants getting hurt and one other hospitalised.

In an air traffic control audio obtained by CBS, the pilot was heard calling for medical officers to come to the plane over a “bloody nose as well as some bite marks.”

She was said to heve later been restrained on the plane by the flight crew.

The incident happened around 23:00 local time aboard Delta Airlines Flight 938.

A spokesperson for Delta Airlines, in a statement to the BBC, stated that law enforcement officers responded as the flight arrived the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, adding that, “Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first.”

The publicist of the actress told the BBC that Mrs Blair was admitted to the hospital, claiming she “experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct.  Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition.”

According to the CBS News, prosecutors alleged that the actress, while being transported to a hospital in an ambulance, kicked a police officer, adding that she also assaulted a nurse at the hospital.

The actress was later discharged from hospital and taken to Queens Central Booking, where she pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault, in relation to the alleged incidents in the ambulance and hospital.

According to CBS, a judge has granted her a $20,000 bail or $60,000 bond, and scheduled the next hearing fixed for January 19.

A date is however, yet to be fixed for the federal case over the allegations of assault, relating to the plane incident.

The clash with the airline workers on Sunday followed her involvement in another flight incident in 2016, after a drunken outburst caused two nurses to subdue her on board.

She later issued a public apology over the incident, saying she accidentally mixed her medication with alcohol and “made a big mistake” that caused her to “black out,” and “say and do things that I deeply regret.”
