Governor Ademola Adeleke on Wednesday paid homage to his elder brother and businessman, Adedeji Adeleke (Davido’s father), for the role he played in his re-election on Saturday.

The governor visited his elder brother after receiving his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osogbo, the state’s capital.

A 49-second online video showed the governor prostrating to pay homage to his older sibling. The footage showed the elder brother warmly receiving the governor and offering prayers.

The elder sibling, also the proprietor of Adeleke University, said in a video on Monday that the re-elected governor’s victory was the result of answered prayers, not money.

“On the day of the election, when I heard the kind of money they were spending, I went back to my little corner in my room, and I knelt down, and I prayed to God. I said, ‘God Almighty, please let people collect their money, but let them still vote for Ademola Adeleke’,” the Osun governor’s brother said at a ceremony held to celebrate the victory.

In a TV interview on Sunday, the governor described his elder brother as an adviser without a portfolio.

Speaking after he had been declared winner in Saturday’s governorship poll, Mr Adeleke said his elder brother “behaves like my dad”.

“When I see him, I see my dad. He is a father figure,” the Osun governor explained.

A review of the governor’s official biography published on the Osun government’s website described the elder brother as a personality who helped sharpen the governor’s “business teeth”.
