Kunle Ajayi, the deputy national secretary of the African Action Congress (AAC), has expressed confidence that the party’s presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, will win in 2027.

Mr Ajayi stated this in an interview in Lagos on Sunday.

He said Mr Sowore and the party had consistently demonstrated commitment to the interests of ordinary Nigerians.

The APC chieftain said the party had remained a credible opposition voice in the country.

“In a free and fair election, the African Action Congress is the party to beat. Our presidential candidate will win.

“We are the best in terms of programmes and plans for development, and we have remained a major opposition party in terms of what a real opposition should be,” he said.

Mr Ajayi said Mr Sowore had consistently stood with the masses and worked for their interests.

According to him, the party and its presidential candidate, Mr Sowore, have always challenged policies that could negatively affect the people.

“If not for our party and our presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, millions of Nigerians would have been practically confined to prisons.

“A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, recently made a similar observation, and Nigerians are aware of the issues involved,” he said.

Mr Ajayi criticised the removal of subsidies across various sectors; the steps had placed additional economic burdens on citizens.

He said former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar had, through his statements, recently aligned with some of the positions canvassed by the AAC.

Mr Ajayi said he was confident that citizens would reward Mr Sowore with their votes “for fighting for their interests”.

“Our party is the only one that has consistently opposed the removal of subsidies in all sectors,” he said.

Mr Ajayi urged Nigerians, particularly youths and other citizens affected by the prevailing economic challenges, to support the AAC as the party that has the authentic political platform of the oppressed.

“Nigerians should rise and support the only party of the oppressed, the African Action Congress.

“We believe that a better Nigeria is possible when citizens support a political movement genuinely committed to the people,” he said.
