10 people killed in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps said at least 10 people were killed, and six others sustained injuries in a road crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday night. This was announced in a statement by the FRSC on Monday.
The crash, according to the FRSC, occurred at about 8:05 p.m. near Sapade Bridge in the Remo North council area of Ogun.
“The crash involved a white Sinotruk (CNHTC) truck bearing a Dangote inscription but no registration number and a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus with Lagos registration number EKY 290 YM.
“The Toyota Hiace bus, which was conveying 18 passengers, collided with the truck after the truck driver allegedly reversed on the highway when he missed his route,” it stated.
The FRSC said preliminary investigations indicated that the crash resulted from speed violation, wrongful overtaking and dangerous driving.
It said the deceased comprised nine adult males and one male child, while the injured included four adult males and two females, adding that two other adult males were unhurt.
The injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, after the deceased were deposited at FOS Mortuary, Ipara.
It added that police operatives at the Ishara Division took custody of the vehicles after arrangements were made for their evacuation.
