100 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition recovered in Kwara, suspects in custody: Police

Police command in Kwara State has announced the recovery of 100 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition, adding that suspects have been taken into custody.
The commissioner of police, Ojo Adekimi, who disclosed this during a press briefing on Friday, said the police arrested multiple suspects linked to banditry and kidnapping operations across the North-Central region.
“A Police patrol team attached to the Lafiaji Area Command in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara state in the early hours of Friday arrested a suspected arms courier and recovered 100 rounds of live AK47 live ammunition,” the police said.
Mr Adekimi added that the police, at about 07:30 hrs, during a routine stop and search operation along Gbugbu/Patigi road, intercepted a Toyota Corolla with registration EP 434 ABC, containing live AK-47 ammunition along with various charms.
“The vehicle driven by Owolaramfe Rafiu had four other occupants: Musa Mohammed, Adam Alhaji Lawal, and Musa Shaibu have all been arrested,” he added.
The statement stated that coordinated effort was underway to identify and apprehend the intended receiver of the ammunition.
The development came barely 24 hours after a medical doctor was arrested by operators of the state security service for allegedly transporting medical supplies from Sokoto State to kidnapping rings operating across the state.
Meanwhile, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq recently announced the recruitment of an additional 2,600 forest guards to complement the efforts of the security agencies in addressing the killings and abductions in the state.
