1,300 NSCDC officers to provide security for Edo LG elections

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed 1,300 operatives across Edo’s three senatorial districts to provide security for Saturday’s local government elections.
The commandant in Edo, Saidi Akintayo, disclosed this on Wednesday in a statement by the command’s spokesman, Efosa Ogbebor.
Mr Akintayo said that the command had concluded all security arrangements to ensure a peaceful, free and credible poll.
According to him, the personnel will be deployed before, during and after the election to protect lives and property, as well as critical national assets and infrastructure across the state.
The commandant assured residents that the command was fully prepared to discharge its constitutional mandate and provide a secure environment for the electoral process.
”The command wishes to urge political parties, candidates, supporters and other stakeholders to comply with electoral laws.
“The command also enjoins these stakeholders to shun violence and other forms of electoral malpractice, and conduct themselves peacefully throughout the exercise,” he said
The NSCDC boss reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to working closely with other security agencies to ensure that the election was conducted peacefully across the state.
Mr Akintayo encouraged eligible voters to come out and exercise their civic responsibility without fear, assuring them of adequate security before, during and after the election.
