The police command in Osun State has arrested 14 additional suspects in connection with the attack on its officers in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Osogbo.

Mr Ojelabi said investigation into the incident led to the arrest of additional 14 suspects, bringing the total number of suspects arrested in connection with the incident to 18.

“The suspects, who went into hiding after perpetrating the criminal act, were apprehended through intelligence gathering operations,” he said.

He said weapons recovered from the suspects include one single-barrel gun, one live cartridge and one cutlass.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to upholding the human rights of the citizens, and assured that those involved in the criminal act would be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others.

Mr Ojelabi said efforts were also ongoing to track and arrest fleeing suspects.

He urged members of the public to be law-abiding and refrain from acts capable of causing a breakdown of law and order.

The command’s spokesperson appealed to residents to provide useful and timely information that would aid policing in the state.

The command had on Thursday said its officers who went to keep the peace between Erin-Osun and Ilobu communities, were attacked by some hoodlums.

The command said a video showing police officers being assaulted by the hoodlums during the operation in the area was in circulation.
