One hundred and eighty Nigerians stranded in Libya have returned home, arriving at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

The National Emergency Management Agency posted on Tuesday that the returnees were received at about 6:36 p.m on Monday.

NEMA said the stranded Nigerians were repatriated through collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, under the Assisted Voluntary Return Programme coordinated by the International Organisation for Migration in collaboration with the Nigerian government.

“The returnees arrived at about 6:36 p.m. on 7th September 2026 aboard an Air Buraq Airlines flight, Registration No 5A-BAC, which landed at the Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos State,” it said.

It noted that the group comprised 169 adults, including 68 males and 101 females; six male children; five infants, comprising four males and one female; and one male medical case.

“Upon arrival, officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service conducted biometric registration and documentation of the returnees to facilitate proper identification, record-keeping and the subsequent reintegration process.

“The returnees also received immediate humanitarian assistance, including food and potable water, medical screening and ambulance services for those requiring medical attention, luggage handling and other logistical support,” it stated.

According to NEMA, reception coordination, counselling, and reintegration support were also provided to help returnees transition back to their communities.

It added that the exercise was successfully conducted with relevant government agencies and partners providing the necessary assistance to ensure a safe, orderly and dignified reception for the returning Nigerians.
