Ahead of the 2023 general election, the Albino Foundation has called on Nigerians living with disabilities to join politics and seek elective positions.

The Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Jake Epelle, made the call on Sunday in Abuja as a guest on the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum.

He said his foundation had framework and guidelines where people with disabilities, including albinism, could participate in Nigeria’s political process.

He expressed happiness about the recent local government election in the FCT where one PLWD contested for a slot in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election.

Though the disabled person had lost, he added, “that is the kind of encouragement I want to be seeing from this moment on.”

He encouraged disabled persons across the country to start small from their local level, while aiming for national politics.

“Nigerian politics is played from the bottom to the top and not the other way round”, he said, stressing that disabled persons must start from councillorship then local government chairman.

“The way God built leadership, that is the way I have built. It is bottom to the top and not top to bottom, so, lets infiltrate the space and grow into the position that we want to grow,” he said.
