Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, says “omissions and erroneous entries” in the party’s campaign council will be corrected.

Mr Obi, through his Twitter account on Friday, wrote that an updated list will soon be issued.

“I’ve received several calls of concern following the release of the Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign Council list. Admittedly, there were some omissions and erroneous entries in the list, hence the concerns expressed,” Mr Obi tweeted. “In response, the Labour Party Chairman, in the presence of members of the NWC addressed the issues during a press conference.”

“In keeping with our commitment to accountability, responsiveness and transparency, an updated list will be issued in due course. I plead for patience,” he added.

Mr Obi and the Labour Party have faced a barrage of criticisms since the 1234-member list was released on Wednesday.

A sticking point was the inclusion of  a former military spokesman man, retired Major-General John Enenche, who denied the killing of #EndSARS protesters by the army on October 20, 2020 at the Lekki Tollgate.

Many of Mr Obi’s supporters are proponents of the historic movement against decades of police brutality who still bear strong reservation against the government for forcefully quelling their legitimate demonstration for justice.

Analysts also criticised the campaign council composition as being sectional, Igbo-dominated and failing to reflect prevailing ethno-religious sentiments across the country. For instance, two men from Mr Obi’s Igbo tribe were nominated to coordinate the party’s campaign in Sokoto, a predominantly Muslim northern state and in Lagos, the country’s commercial capital traditional home to the Yoruba.
