The Tunisian Football Federation (TFF) has sacked national team head coach Sabri Lamouchi in the midst of the 2026 FIFA World Cup following Tunisia’s heavy 5–1 defeat to Sweden in their opening match of the tournament on Monday.

“An agreement has been officially reached to dismiss coach Sabri Lamouchi,” the TFF said in a statement posted on its official Instagram page on Monday evening, hours after the shambolic in Mexico.

The federation added that it has commenced plans to appoint ‌Mondher Kebaier as the replacement for Lamouchi, stating “Plans are under way ‌to appoint ‌Mondher Kebaier as the national team ‌coach [on an interim basis].”

The future of Lamouchi as Tunisia head coach had been under threat before the World Cup after the Eagles of Carthage lost 5-0 to Belgium in a pre-tournament friendly but the performance against Sweden finally sealed his fate.

Tunisia will face Japan in their second group game at the Monterrey Stadium on Sunday before playing Netherlands in last group match at the Kansas City Stadium on June 26.
