The Deputy National Secretary of the African Action Congress (AAC), Kunle Ajayi, says the party will woo voters through detailed manifesto presentations, door-to-door engagements and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mr Ajayi disclosed this during an interview in Lagos on Thursday.

He said the party’s focus was on direct engagement with citizens to explain its policies and development agenda.

According to him, a free, fair and credible election will provide an opportunity for Nigerians to assess political parties based on their programmes, records and commitment to the electorate.

He stated, “In a free and fair election, the AAC believes that Nigerians will have the opportunity to assess political parties based on their actions, manifestos and commitment to the people.”

Mr Ajayi said the AAC, as a major opposition party, had consistently advocated the interests of ordinary Nigerians and challenged policies it considered unfavourable to the masses.

He said the party and its presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, had focused on defending citizens’ rights and demanding accountability from those in authority.

Mr Ajayi said the party developed several campaign strategies, adding that its approach would prioritise direct interaction with voters rather than relying solely on conventional rallies.

“We have many campaign strategies that we intend to deploy, but our priority is to engage the people directly and explain what we stand for,” he said.

He explained that party members would visit homes, streets and communities to present the AAC manifesto, outline its policy proposals and inform voters about what it intends to achieve if elected.

“We speak with the people door-to-door, house-to-house and street-to-street. We will explain our manifesto, our antecedents and what we intend to do when given the opportunity to govern,” he said.

The deputy national secretary added that the campaign would extend to communities across the states and regions, with the aim of reaching voters at the grassroots and addressing their concerns.

“We have been going to the nooks and crannies of every state and region to explain our programmes to Nigerians and give them the opportunity to understand our plans for the country,” Mr Ajayi said.

He added that AAC intended to make citizens active participants in its campaign process, stressing that public engagement and accountability would remain key elements of its political approach.

“We want the people to own the campaign, just as we intend to ensure that governance serves their interests. Our engagement focuses on communicating our plans and listening to the concerns of Nigerians,” he said.

Mr Ajayi urged Nigerians to examine the manifestos and track records of political parties before making their choices at the polls, saying informed participation was essential to democratic development.

He said that  the party would continue to communicate its agenda to citizens as preparations for elections gather momentum.
