2027: Kano Gov Yusuf in closed-door meeting with Tinubu

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, is currently in a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja.
The development comes amid speculation of a possible defection of Mr Yusuf from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Since Mr Tinubu became president, several opposition governors have defected to the ruling APC while declaring their support for the president’s second-term bid.
Among the defectors are Governors Similayi Fubara of Rivers State, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, and Douye Diri of Bayelsa State.
The defections, some analysts say, will strengthen Mr Tinubu’s chances at the polls in the 2027 presidential election.
Meanwhile, Rabiu Kwankwaso, the national leader of the NNPP and political godfather of Mr Yusuf,, has dismissed reports suggesting that he approved or endorsed any planned defection by governor.
