Hakeem Olalemi, the director-general of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Lagos State governorship election campaign council, says the party will mount a vigorous and strategic campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mr Olalemi stated this in an interview in Lagos on Sunday, while speaking on the party’s preparations for the elections.

He said the PDP remained serious about the 2027 elections, stressing that the party had carefully nominated its candidates at various levels.

He said, “PDP is one of the legacy parties in Nigeria. So, we are top-notch.

“All our candidates, from the presidency down to the national and state house of assembly, have been carefully nominated as our candidates.

“For PDP, we are very, very serious in this election, and we will try our best to ensure that we win the majority of seats in the national and state assembly.”

Mr Olalemi said the party would deploy a strategic campaign machinery to mobilise voters across the state for its governorship candidate, Adedeji Doherty.

“Nigerians should expect a serious, vigorous, and strategic campaign from Lagos this time around.

“We are working hard to put everything in place so that we can have a very good outing in this coming election.

“We are mobilising every corner of Lagos because we are not a pushover in this contest,” he said.

He assured the PDP supporters across the 20 local government areas that the party was building a strong structure ahead of the election.

“I am telling all party faithful, the supporters, and the people that believe in our government and PDP, that there is no cause for alarm.

“They should be ready to defeat APC, because we are putting up a very reliable structure around people’s needs.

“We are ready to take over the mantle of leadership in Lagos State,” he said.

Mr Olalemi said the party had been working round the clock to ensure a successful outing, adding that its mobilisation efforts would cover the entire state.

“We have been working around the clock to ensure that we have a very good and victorious outing this time around.

“We are preparing our party to come out victorious in the next coming election.

“We are a structured party, and whatever that is going to be, we are going to structure it down to the bottom,” he added.

On reports that the PDP structure in Lagos might support the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Olalemi said no such directive had been received from the party’s national leadership.

He said that the party would continue to listen to its national leader and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Mr Olalemi said the chapter would abide by any formal decision by the national chairman or the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

He said the party was also open to possible political coalitions, stressing that such an arrangement would depend on decisions taken by its leadership.

He also dismissed any suggestion that the party’s governorship candidate was not fully committed to the Lagos governorship contest.

Mr Olalemi therefore called on PDP members and supporters to remain committed to the party as preparations for the 2027 elections gathered momentum.

Lagos PDP recently inaugurated its campaign council ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with Mr Olalemi named DG.
