United States President Donald Trump has announced the immediate ban of several American news outlets, including CNN, MS NOW and Politico, from covering the White House in his latest confrontation with the media.

Mr Trump disclosed this in a statement published on his Truth Social account on Friday, citing the news organisations’ coverage of him and his administration as the reason for the decision.

“I am proud to announce that, effective immediately, I am banning Fake News CNN, MSNOW, and Politico from the White House as a result of their constant “reporting” Fake News!,” Mr Trump said.

He added, “Media Outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report fiction and lies when they’re covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America. Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow.”

Mr Trump had in February 2025 issued a similar order against the Associated Press (AP), banning journalists from the organisation from the Oval Office, Air Force One and other events too small for a full press corps after it refused to refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.

The AP subsequently filed a lawsuit against Mr Trump over the decision, with the case still pending in court.
