2027: PDP picks Kale Kawu as consensus governorship candidate in Kwara

The Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State has picked Engineer Kale Kawu as its governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki, who is the leader of the party in the state, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.
“I am pleased to announce that, after extensive consultations with stakeholders of the Kwara PDP and our leading gubernatorial aspirants, we have arrived at a consensus candidate to fly the flag of our great party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election. That candidate is Engr. Kale Kawu,” Mr Saraki stated.
The politician commended other aspirants who stepped down in support of the consensus arrangement, describing their action as a demonstration of unity and commitment to the party’s success.
He added, “I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the other aspirants who, in the supreme interest of our party and state, have graciously stepped down to support this consensus. It is this spirit of unity and selflessness that will carry us to victory.”
Mr Saraki also wished all members, delegates and teeming supporters a successful, peaceful and orderly outing at gubernatorial primaries scheduled for tomorrow (Sunday).
Mr Kawu, who retired as the Executive Director at the Rural Electrification Agency last year, had long declared his ambition to run for the highest political office in the state.
His emergence as a consensus candidate came hours after the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Yakubu Salihu Danladi, emerged the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the state ahead of 2027.
