Mr Echioda urged eligible Nigerians to participate actively by voting for competent, God-fearing, and credible candidates with proven records of service.

A former Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State chapter, Rev. Dr. Mathias Echioda, has called on Nigerians to intensify prayers for the nation and elect credible leaders in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

Mr Echioda, who also served as former Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Niger State chapter, made the call during an interview on the sidelines of his Church’s Founder’s Day celebration in Minna.

He said government and citizens have complementary roles in promoting peace, unity, and national development.

He stressed that government must protect lives and property, improve citizens’ welfare, and address the country’s challenges.

The cleric urged Nigerians to obey constituted authority, pray for leaders, and engage government constructively by drawing attention to challenges affecting their communities.

“Leadership is not an easy task. It is easier to criticise those in authority than to occupy positions of responsibility,” he said.

Mr Echioda said the church would continue to promote peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic, religious, or cultural differences, noting that national unity remained critical to sustainable development.

He also called on Christians to contribute to nation-building through service, integrity, and commitment to peace, while urging them to use their talents and opportunities to make positive impacts in society.

Speaking on the 2027 general elections, Mr Echioda urged eligible Nigerians to participate actively by voting for competent, God-fearing, and credible candidates with proven records of service.

He appealed to political leaders and voters to reject politics driven by ethnicity, religion, corruption, and personal interests, instead, he said, they should support candidates with the capacity and integrity to deliver good governance.

The former CAN chairman disclosed that special prayers were offered during the founder’s day service for Nigeria’s peace and unity, for the nation’s leaders, for improved security, and for peaceful, free, and credible elections in 2027.

He added that the Church had commenced a seven-day prayer and fasting programme focused on national peace and unity, enhanced security, divine guidance for leaders, and a peaceful electoral process in 2027. (NAN)
