A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu is in poor health, saying that the president frequently travels to France for medical treatment and can no longer do more in office because of his condition.

Speaking during an interview on Symfoni TV on Saturday, Mr Lawal said Mr Tinubu had pursued his interests regardless of whether they aligned with democratic principles.

“He’s not a healthy man now. I mean, Nigerians are not fools when he’s always in France. I’ve said it before, he should pursue his health. He has become president now; hopefully that is enough, but he cannot do more,” Mr Lawal said.

According to Mr Lawal, the president knows his interests and has pursued them whether they are democratic or not.

He noted that the performance of public office holders could decline as their health deteriorates and they grow older.

“You have ample examples to show that when you have declining health and age, your performance runs down exponentially,” he said, adding that if he were Mr Tinubu, he would face his health issues.
