Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Segun Aina, has assured candidates of a less traumatic and time-consuming registration process than the 2026 UTME registration process.

The board announced the move during an inaugural meeting on August 3, with a commitment to reducing the “trauma” faced by candidates during registration and after they sit for their examinations by adopting a new pre-registration mobile platform that allows candidates to register from the comfort of their homes.

Mr Aina said that he encouraged staff of the institution to ensure that the process should not be associated with a “source of unnecessary trauma”.

The registrar assured that the platform is user-friendly, allowing candidates to register from anywhere using their mobile phones through fast sign-ups, offline data collection and an instant validation process.

The platform will tackle other issues, such as communication errors and other challenges experienced during the registration process.

Mr Aina added that the pre-registration system is designed to scan and identify documents, preventing the entry of wrong data and other forms of irregularities.

“We shall continue to simplify our processes, improve our communication, strengthen our customer support, embrace technology where it makes service easier, protect information with the highest standards of security, invest in our people, modernise the way we work and build systems that are efficient, transparent and worthy of the confidence Nigerians place in us,” Mr Aina said.

The initiative by JAMB comes as a step towards Nigeria meeting international standards, preventing recurrent issues of students gaining admission into universities. When operational, the main registration process, which takes about 20 minutes, will be completed within two to three minutes.
