235.89kg illicit drugs seized in Oyo in three months: NDLEA

The National Drugs Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Oyo command, says it had seized over 235.89kg of illicit drugs between January and March.
The state commander, Abdullah Saeed, made this known in a statement by Mutiat Okuwobi, the command Public Relations Officer, on Thursday in Ibadan.
“The seized illicit drugs were cannabis, Sativa, and other narcotic and psychotropic substances.”
Mr Saeed stated that the state’s NDLEA had also detained 56 individuals for various drug-related offences.
49 of the suspects, according to the commander, were male, and seven were female.
Mr Saeed in his statement said, “They are aged between 16 and 60 years. They were arrested for dealing with illicit drugs such as cannabis sativa, tramadol, and diazepam some of them dealt in Rohypnol, Colorado, Codeine, and other psychotropic substances”
According to him, during that particular period, 18 people were found guilty and seven others received rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
He also stated that “we carried out sensitisation programmes in 49 locations across the state campaigning against drug abuse”
The commander pleaded with the populace to remain watchful and provide the agency with trustworthy information so it could combat drug usage.
