24 abducted in fresh bandits’ attack on Niger community

About 24 people, including a pregnant woman, were abducted as armed bandits launched fresh attack on Palaita community, Erena Ward, in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
Multiple reports indicated that the attackers invaded the community about 2:00pm on Wednesday, while residents were harvesting crops.
The state police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, did not reply to calls made to his mobile and messages WWhatsApp seeking confirmation of the incident.
However, Mr Abiodun told a television station that the terrorists abducted about 10 persons from Angwan-Kawo and Kuchipa villages of Shiroro LGA of the state, noting that efforts were underway to rescue victims.
“On November 26, 2025, at about 8pm, a report was received indicating that suspected armed men abducted about 10 persons from Angwan-Kawo and Kuchipa villages of Shiroro Local Government Area. Effort is being made to rescue the victims”, the police spokesperson said.
The latest attack came barely a week after armed gunmen abducted over 300 students and teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, eliciting concerns from Nigerians.
The incident occurred security challenges especially in various northern states, forcing governments to shut down schools in Kwara, Kebbi, Niger, Plateau and others.
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday declared a nationwide security emergency and ordered fresh recruitment into the Armed Forces to reinforce ongoing operations across the country.
