24 dead, scores missing in Jigawa canoe mishap: Police

The Jigawa Police Command says 24 people died in a canoe mishap that occurred on Saturday in the state.
The state police public relations officer (PPRO), SP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed the incident in a statement in Dutse.
Mr Shiisu said 16 people were earlier reported dead, while 10 others were rescued, with 14 missing after the canoe capsized in Adiyani village of the Guri Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson added that the number of persons who died in the incident later rose to 24.
