A 27-year-old woman, Sarah Williams, was arraigned on Wednesday before a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing four cartons of Indomie noodles.

Ms Williams, who resides at Sabon Tasha, Kaduna, is standing trial on a one-count charge of stealing, to which she pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Oct. 24 at Sabon Tasha market, Kaduna.

Mr Leo said the defendant went to the complainant’s (Emeka Godwin) shop and bought two cartons of Indomie, but when she left, she took six cartons instead of two.

The prosecutor said the defendant was caught and handed over to the police when the complainant raised the alarm.

The alleged offence contravened the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.

Counsel to the defendant, Richard Adekunle, pleaded with the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms.

The magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, admitted the defendant to bail of N100,000 with one surety in like sum. He ordered that the surety must provide evidence of tax payment to the Kaduna government.

The magistrate adjourned the case until November 24 for hearing.
