30-year-old man remanded for allegedly stealing hotel’s cable

A Grade A Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has remanded a 30-year-old man, Philip Ndati, in a correctional centre for allegedly stealing four bundles of cable worth N200,000.
Ndati pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of stealing and unlawful possession brought against him by the police.
The court president, S.M. Akintayo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two reliable sureties in like sum.
He said one surety must be a community leader and the sureties must provide evidence of tax payment to the Oyo State Government.
Mrs Akintayo ordered Ndati’s remand at the Agodi Correctional Centre after he failed to meet the bail conditions.
The case was adjourned until September 8 for hearing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Ayeni, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 30, at about 12.35 p.m., at Premier Hotel, Mokola, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Mr Ayeni stated that Ndati was found with four bundles of cable wire valued at N200,000, belonging to Premier Hotel, Ibadan, and failed to provide a credible explanation for possessing them.
According to him, the offences contravene sections 390(9) and 427 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.(NAN)
