32-year-old kidnap victim rescued in Edo

The Edo State police command said it rescued a 32-year-old kidnap victim, Oboharekpe Muhammed David, abducted by four armed men at Ibienafe Village, South-Ibie, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.
A statement on Sunday by the state police spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said the development occurred on August 20, 2026, following a coordinated search-and-rescue operation.
She stated that the operation was carried out along other security agencies in South-Ibie.
“The operation yielded results on 21/8/2026 at about 1:30am when the security team sighted and engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel in the forest,” Ms Ikoedem said.
The police spokesperson stated that the superior firepower of the security operatives forced the kidnappers to flee into the surrounding terrain and abandon the hostage.
“David was successfully rescued unhurt and immediately taken to a hospital for medical examination and necessary attention”, she noted.
She added that efforts were ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing kidnappers.
She also added that security operations had been intensified within the area to prevent further criminal activities.
