3,391 soldiers pass out from Osogbo depot

In a landmark ceremony, 3,391 new soldiers of the Nigerian Army were formally inducted on Saturday at Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, marking the first-ever Passing Out Parade since the depot’s establishment.
The acting director, army public relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, made this known in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, charged the recruits to uphold “the highest standards of discipline, professionalism, courage, and patriotism” as they commence their military careers.
“This ceremony is historic as the first Passing Out Parade of Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo.
“You are the pioneer set, and you must wear this badge with pride. Conduct yourselves as worthy ambassadors of this institution throughout your careers,” he said.
Highlighting the nation’s evolving security challenges, Mr Shaibu urged the soldiers to draw strength from their training and act “with hope for success rather than fear of failure” when confronting adversity.
He reassured them of the army’s unwavering support under his ‘Soldier First’ policy.
“Our soldiers remain the core and enduring strength of the Nigerian Army.
“Uphold the core values of the Army and develop the determination to excel in your lives and careers,” he said.
The COAS emphasised the responsibility that comes with safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
He also commended the commandant, officers, instructors, and staff of the depot for molding the recruits into disciplined, combat-ready soldiers, and announced that the newly approved depot of the Nigerian Army in Abakaliki would soon begin training operations.
In his remarks, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State lauded the Nigerian Army for its dedication to national security and ongoing operations against banditry and kidnapping, urging the recruits to serve as “steadfast custodians of peace and stability.”
The parade concluded with the formal induction of the soldiers, officially marking the start of their service to the nation.
