Shooting Stars Football Club of Ibadan, Oyo State, on Sunday whipped visiting Akwa United FC of Uyo 3-0 to bolster their position in the ongoing 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League.

In their match day 24 fixture at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Ibadan, 3SC were quick to overcome the visitors’ opening minutes’ offensive blitz.

This helped them to put the game under control, and they were soon in control when they sustained their own offensive blitz and put their opponents on the back foot.

Victor Ehibe put the hosts in front after 14 minutes when his low drive from outside the area on his flank went past goalkeeper Jean Efala.

About two minutes later, the hosts doubled their lead through striker Christian Pyagbara who headed home from a left flank corner-kick.

3SC took their foot off the pedal thereafter, seeming content with their lead, and giving room for a fightback from their guests.

In the second half, Akwa United were quicker off the blocks and pushed the hosts back to restrict them and also cut the deficit.

Friday Ubong and Kabir Osoba threatened with some good efforts through good forays, but the 3SC defenceline was stout in warding them off.

Substitute Lawal Abdullahi, whose 63rd minute effort did not yield fruit, was however good with his 84th minute free-kick which Efala could not just stop.

3SC now head to Gombe for their match day 25 fixture against hosts Doma United on Wednesday.
