Governor Abdullahi Sule has approved June 13, as the official date for the presentation of the staff of office to the Aren Eggon, Ahmed Ubangari-Alaku.

This was announced in a statement jointly signed by Danladi Jatau, the chairman of the Central Planning and Coordinating Committee for the Coronation, and Isiyaku Abdullahi, the Galadiman Eggon, who serves as alternate chairman.

According to the statement, the event will formally usher in the reign of Justice Ubangari-Alaku I, as the paramount ruler of the Eggon nation and one of the foremost traditional rulers in Nasarawa.

Mr Ubangari-Alaku ascended the throne of Aren Eggon after his selection by the Eggon kingmakers on May 5, 2023. Before his selection, he served as the Wazirin Eggon during the reign of his predecessor, Bala Abaine-Angbazo, who died on July 13, 2022.

The statement noted that the forthcoming ceremony was not only a celebration of royal heritage and cultural identity but also a historic milestone for the Eggon people across Nigeria, and the diaspora.

“The coronation is particularly significant because it marks the first presentation of a Staff of Office to an Aren Eggon in over four decades.

“The last such ceremony was held on Saturday, February 12, 1983, when then-governor of Plateau, Solomon Lar, presented the staff of office to the late Dr Bala Abaine-Angbazo.

“The Aren Eggon stool was upgraded to First Class status on June 1, 1982, by the Plateau government,” it said.

Meanwhile, the committee called on all Eggon sons and daughters, traditional institutions, community leaders, political stakeholders, friends, and well-wishers of the Eggon nation to prepare for the event.

The committee said activities lined up for the coronation would showcase the rich cultural heritage, unity, and enduring traditions of the Eggon people.

“Further details on the venue, programme of events, accommodation, security arrangements, and participation guidelines will be communicated in due course,” it said.

The committee urged all invited guests and supporters to cooperate with constituted authorities and the planning committee to ensure a peaceful, colourful, and successful ceremony.
