41 technology-facilitated SGBV cases recorded in Lagos in one year: Official

The Lagos State government, through its Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), says it recorded 41 cases of technology-facilitated sexual and gender-based violence (TFSGBV) in one year.
The executive secretary of DSVA, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, made this known during a comprehensive sensitisation programme for secondary school students, focusing on the emerging challenge of technology-facilitated sexual and gender-based violence (TFSGBV).
Ms Vivour-Adeniyi said in a statement on Tuesday that the cases were recorded from September 2024 to August 2025, signaling an emerging threat that demanded immediate action.
The programme, themed “Technology and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV),” engaged 100 students from Education District V.
Participating schools included Ojo Senior High School, Ojo Junior High School, Community Senior and Junior Secondary Schools, and Lagos State Senior and Junior Model Colleges, Ojo.
The executive secretary, represented by the head of community engagement at DSVA, Damilare Adewusi, underscored the critical importance of digital responsibility and civic awareness in the modern age.
She urged the students to leverage their influence as digital natives to address the rising issue of technology-facilitated SGBV.
Ms Vivour-Adeniyi encouraged them to become ambassadors for change by disseminating knowledge on technology-related SGBV within their schools and communities.
She provided a detailed exposition on the various forms of technology-facilitated SGBV, elucidating concepts such as cyberbullying, image-based abuse, online grooming, and digital harassment.
The session featured an interactive and educational discussion designed to equip students with vital information.
A key component of the presentation was the emphasis on the DSVA’s toll-free line—08000333333—as a critical, confidential resource for reporting incidents and seeking support.
