53-year-old man dies during visit to female friend in Niger

The police command in Niger says a 53-year-old man reportedly collapsed and died while visiting a young woman in Minna, the state capital.
Niger police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun disclosed on Friday that the incident occurred on January 27, at about 10:00 a.m., following a report received from the Tudun-Wada Division.
Mr Abiodun said the deceased, who was from Bida, reportedly visited a friend at her residence along Niteco Road in the Tunga area of Minna.
He said that during the visit, the woman was said to have served the deceased some food, after which he allegedly began to convulse and later collapsed.
The PPRO said the deceased was immediately rushed to the General Hospital, Minna, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
He added that the woman had been arrested in connection with the incident, while the corpse of the deceased had been deposited for examination to ascertain the actual cause of death.
Mr Abiodun further stated that the families of the deceased had been contacted, and an investigation into the matter was ongoing.
The command assured that further developments would be communicated to the public as the investigation progresses.
