60 million people benefit from Indonesia’s free meal programme
Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, said on Thursday that the country’s free nutritious meal programme has so far benefited more than 60 million people,
Mr Zulkifli said, “There are currently 22,091 Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPGs) serving over 60 million beneficiaries.”
Mr Zulkifli added that the programme continued to expand nationwide.
According to Mr Zulkifli, the number of SPPGs is projected to increase to 33,000 this year, with a focus on underdeveloped regions.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, said the government allocated a budget of 335 trillion rupiah (about $20 billion) for the programme in 2026.
It has a sharp rise from 71 trillion rupiah last year.
Indonesia aimed for the free nutritious meal programme to reach 82.9 million beneficiaries, including students, pregnant and nursing mothers, as well as toddlers.
