61-year-old man in court over alleged N2.65 million fraud

The police on Thursday arraigned a 61-year-old man, Odutola Olajide, in Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over alleged N2.65 million fraud.
The defendant, whose address is unknown, is being charged with fraud and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the crimes sometime in May 2025, at Harmony Estate, Mowo, Badagry, Lagos.
He alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N2 million from the complainant, Olatobosun Rasheed, under the pretence of selling a plot of land to him.
Mr Ekpo alleged that the defendant converted the money to his own use without the knowledge of the complainant.
“The defendant also obtained the sum of N650, 000 from the complainant under the pretence of buying a ram for him, which he did not. He also converted the sum to his own use without the knowledge of the complainant. The offences contravened Sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015,” the prosecutor said.
The Chief Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
He said that one of the sureties must be a company director.
Mr Layeni adjourned the case until June 3, for mention. (NAN)
