63 fans arrested for violent celebration of New York Knicks’ NBA title victory

The New York Police Department has charged 63 people over violent jubilations on Sunday, near Times Square, that led to a clash with officers in Midtown Manhattan, and the shooting of a 17-year-old boy on the foot who is now receiving medical attention at the Bellevue Hospital.
The fans were celebrating the New York Knicks’ 94-90 win against San Antonio Spurs in game five in Texas, on Saturday, to clinch their first NBA championship victory in 53 years, when it suddenly turned violent at about 2:00 a.m., on Sunday.
The violence witnessed gunshots near 43rd St. and Broadway, police cars and five yellow school buses used to transport World Cup fans for a match between Brazil and Morocco, were destroyed with bats by fans.
According to the police, ten officers were injured, one punched in the face and another struck with a glass bottle.
The suspects have been charged for alleged assault on a police officer, criminal possession of weapon, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and obstruction of governmental administration.
The police also stated that the violent disorder also recorded four stabbings, destruction of private vehicles, people lighting fireworks in large crowds, brawls and crowds refusing to disperse.
City workers, later in the day launched a mass cleanup of the city to clear up the damage and destruction ahead of the title parade on Thursday.
