69-year-old Ibadan man arrested for stealing

Mojeed Yusuf, 69, on Thursday, appeared before the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court Ibadan, charged with assaulting a landowner.
Mr Yusuf, whose address was not provided, is facing trial for alleged conspiracy, assault occasioning harm, stealing, malicious damage, land grabbing and conduct likely to cause the breach of peace.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
The prosecutor, ASP Musbau Lawal, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Aug. 31, at 11:00 a.m., at Ado Awaye, near Iseyin.
Mr Lawal said the defendant allegedly assaulted Olatunji Akande by hitting him with stones and sticks severally on his neck, right shoulder and chest.
He said the defendant also allegedly stole N1.5 million from Mr Akande and willfully damaged signposts worth N1.3 million belonging to Mr Akande’s family.
Mr Lawal said the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by encroaching on the Akande family’s land, causing them injury.
He said the offences contravened Sections 516, 355, 390(9), 451 and 249(d) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The magistrate, Olaolu Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail of N500,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
He thereafter adjourned the case until December 18 for a hearing.
