Zamfara State government says it has released N1 billion for the rehabilitation and expansion of the Gusau water project.

Commissioner for Water Resources Ibrahim Mayana announced this while receiving the state deputy governor, Hassan Nasiha, during a special visit to the state water board.

Mr Mayana said the government considered the need to rehabilitate and enhance the capacity of the project following the water shortage in the state.

He said the water shortage was due to the breakdown of the operational plants that pumped water in all the areas of the Gusau metropolis.

Mr Mayana said the plant reconstruction was already in progress, and very soon, the water shortage in the metropolis would end.

The deputy governor expressed satisfaction with the level of commitment and expertise demonstrated by the board’s engineers towards rectifying the problem to resume operation at its full capacity.

He reiterated the administration’s commitment under the leadership of Governor Bello Matawalle to addressing the decades of challenges in water shortage experienced by the people of Gusau.

He thanked residents for their patience and endurance during the trial period and called on them to remain supportive of all government policies and programmes.

Meanwhile, Mr Nasiha directed the commissioner to remain focused on any possible challenging issue and report immediately for necessary action by the government to forestall the recurrence of the water outage.
