Crisis-hit Sri Lanka records growth in tourist arrivals
Sri Lanka’s tourist arrivals in June increased by 8.8 per cent despite the ongoing economic crisis.
According to the country’s Tourism Ministry, this surpassed the 400,000 mark in the first half of this year.
The ministry said Sri Lanka recorded more tourist arrivals last month due to cricket matches between the country and Australia.
Official figures said tourist arrivals in the first six months of this year amount to 411,377, with India being the largest source market for Sri Lanka, followed by Britain and Russia.
Sri Lanka’s tourism industry has been facing obstacles recently due to a severe fuel shortage and the worsening economic crisis.
