Kuje Invasion: Zamfara prison, police preparing for attacks, says official

The police commissioner in Zamfara, Ayuba Elkanah, has visited the comptroller corrections services following the recent Boko Haram attack on Kuje prison in the FCT.
The police said both agencies were bracing themselves for possible attacks.
This is contained in a statement issued by spokesman SP Muhammad Shehu.
“The visit is part of the command’s effort to ensure adequate protection of all corrections facilities and other vulnerable infrastructure in the state and to prevent any attack on such facilities by criminal elements,” said the statement. “Mr Elkanah met with the comptroller (of) Nigeria Corrections Service, Zamfara command to review the existing security of correctional custodial centres in the state.”
According to the statement, Mr Elkanah and the prison chief visited the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Gusau to assess its security architecture “to intensify the security of all corrections centres in the state.”
During the visit, the police commissioner promised to rejig the security architecture of prisons and other vulnerable infrastructures in Zamfara.
“He reiterated the command’s commitment to partner with other security agencies. Elkanah called on members of the public to support the police with credible information on activities of criminal elements in the state,” added the statement.
