Bishop of Calabar Anglican Communion, Nneoyi Egbe, on Monday charged Nigerians to reject old and recycled politicians during the 2023 general elections.

During a news conference on Monday, Mr Egbe urged Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) to ensure that the young politicians take over power.

“Enough of the recycling of the old that has led us nowhere,” he said. “We must register, collect our Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and vote for credible, young, fresh, visionary leaders with patriotic ideologies.”

Mr Egbe also urged Nigerian leaders to respect the country’s secularity for peace to reign, saying, “We are driving steadily to another election, yet it is clear that the political gladiators parading the corridors of our political system have not learnt any lesson.”

He also appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to increase voting materials, adding that “It makes no sense to deploy three or four units of such machines to a local government area.”

The bishop added that Nigerians have a rare opportunity to change the narrative of their national lives by choosing right at the 2023 general elections.

He challenged the government to look critically at incessant strikes in the education sector and desist from engaging in “propaganda warfare’’ with unions.

Mr Egbe stressed that the government should increase funding for education significantly and be intentional about delivering quality education to Nigerians.
