Super Eagles skipper Ahmed Musa has berated Nigeria’s political leaders over the prolonged industrial action by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

“To our political office holders whose children school abroad. How do you feel visiting your children abroad, taking pictures in their schools and posting online while ASUU is on strike?” Musa wrote on his Instagram page on Tuesday.

Musa said Nigerian politicians “are running a system they don’t even believe in,” adding, “Show me one oyibo leader whose child is schooling in Nigeria. E no dey touch una? And when you return Nigerian youths will still gather and sing praises for una.”

Musa’s outburst comes days after photos of Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike’s son graduating from a UK university went viral on social media.

Oyo governor, Senior Makinde and Abia governor Okezie Ikpeazu, were both seen in the viral photos, celebrating with the Wike’s.

Similarly, President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughter, Hanan, graduated from a UK University in 2019. But under the watch or Mr Buhari, Nigerian universities have been shut down for over 140 days. On Monday, he urged ASUU to end the prolonged strike.

The union has accused successive governments of failing to implement the agreements reached with them in 2009 by the administration of late president Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

ASUU demands that the federal government adopts the Universities Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) for payment of its members salaries against the use of the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System and the payment of academic earned allowance (EAA), among others.

Last week, Emmanuel Osodeke, ASUU president, accused the Buhari-led regime of insincerity, pledging ASUU’s readiness to call off the strike once their demands are met.
