The Governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, says his government is in touch with Pfizer and other manufacturers of COVID-19 vaccines.

He stated this in an interview on Channels TV.

“Pfizer, for example, I have made contact with them. Johnson and Johnson are not out yet. Moderna has written to us and we have written back to them,” said Mr. Sanwo-Olu.

He suggested that the private sector in the state were willing to support his administration in the purchase of the vaccines.

The governor explained, “We have our friends in the private sector who are saying to us that they understand this is a public health issue but we also can work with you. The citizens are your citizens but they also are our staff.”

According to him, the state’s plan is to vaccinate about 60 per cent of the population, adding that there are no plans to vaccinate all Lagos residents (about 22 million people).

Lagos remains the epicentre of the pandemic in Nigeria with 45,684 confirmed cases.
