The Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS) has begun enforcement of road tax compliance by all motorists and truck drivers across the 18 local government areas of the state.

The enforcement was in collaboration with the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) and relevant security agencies in the state.

ODIRS’ state licensing officer, Samuel Olajide, told journalists in Akure on Thursday that the enforcement was to ensure that all vehicles on the roads have valid documents and are duly registered.

“What we are doing is to enforce compliance, and with the current security situation in the country, there is the need to ensure that vehicles on our roads comply with the tax law.

“Defaulters should go to the ODIRS headquarters, Akure, or any of its branches in the 18 local government areas of the state to register their vehicles and update their documents.

“We have been announcing the enforcement on both radio and television in the last six days,” Mr Olajide said.

Peter Adenegan, the commanding officer, Ondo State VIO, said the enforcement was an annual exercise.

According to Mr Adenegan, officials of the agency will be out on inspection once or twice a year.

“This is to ensure that vehicle owners are going out with valid documents.

“We are here with other relevant law enforcement agencies to ensure that there is strict compliance with the road taxes.

“All we are doing is to check their particulars, driver’s licence and ensure nobody is using the old number plate in Ondo State,” he said.

Mr Adenegan charged vehicle owners to visit any of the ODIRS offices close to them to register and update their particulars.
