The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has released the daily recorded cases of COVID-19 across the country, but the figure for Lagos, the epicentre of the disease, is missing.

Nigeria has recorded 864 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total figure for the country to 127,024. The NCDC tweeted this on Friday.

According to the agency, the Federal Capital Territory recorded 129 cases, and Anambra, 87. But there was no figure recorded for Lagos.

Peoples Gazette learnt that a similar omission had occurred in the past when Lagos’ number of daily COVID-19 cases was initially omitted but released later.

Efforts to speak with the Commissioner for Health in Lagos, Prof. Akin Abayomi, were unsuccessful.

However, in his explanation, when contacted by the Gazette, NCDC’s spokesman, Emeka Oguanuo, said, “We didn’t receive from Lagos as of the time of yesterday’s announcement.”

Lagos currently has 46,935 recorded cases, 38,205 recoveries, and 299 deaths.

Rivers had 82; Benue, 80; Oyo, 76; Plateau, 61; Kaduna, 54; Delta, 51; Nasarawa, 38; Kwara, 36; Edo, 32; Katsina, 26; Kano, 24; Taraba, 18; Ogun, 14; Sokoto, 11; Gombe, 10; Jigawa, 7; Akwa Ibom, 6; Cross River, 6; Zamfara, 5; Bauchi, 5; Osun, 4; and Ekiti, 2.

This afternoon, however, the NCDC, updated the figure to include Lagos with 536 COVID-19 cases recorded on Thursday.
