The kidnappers of the Oniku of Iku in Ikare Akoko, Mukaila Bello, and three other persons have demanded a N50 million ransom.

Mr Bello and the other victims were allegedly kidnapped by bandits on Thursday at the Ago-Panu axis on the Ikare-Owo highway.

The three other victims were identified as Yeye Gbafinro, Adeniran Adeyemo, and Bashiru Adekile, a community leader in Iku.

“They (kidnappers) have finally established contact with the family members, and they are asking for N50 million as ransom,” said a family friend of one of the victims, Olayiwola Enitan.

The police on Friday confirmed the kidnap.

“Police received a distress call at about 6:30 p.m. on August 4 that gunmen shot at one Toyota Corolla car while on motion around Ago Yeye, on Owo-Ikare Road,’’ police spokeswoman Funmilayo Odunlami stated.

The police disclosed that a bullet hit the driver in the head, forcing the vehicle the chieftains were travelling in to come to a halt, and “the other occupants numbering about four (identities unknown) were whisked into the bush while the driver was abandoned.”

Ms Odunlami added, “The police have recovered the vehicle while the driver was taken to the hospital where he is currently in stable condition.”

According to her, the police, local hunters and vigilantes in the area are combing the bush to rescue the victims and arrest the assailants.
