Six killed, 15 injured as gunman opens fire in Poland

Six people died after a gunman opened fire at random strangers in Krakow, Poland’s second largest city, on Saturday.
A British citizen was among the casualties, while at least 15 other people, including foreigners from Austria, Britain, Germany, Portugal and Russia, were wounded in the shooting.
Police officers shot the assailant identified as a Polish citizen in his early twenties. He was taken to hospital, where police said he remained in a “stable but very critical condition.”
Polish authorities say the suspect, Michal O, was “influenced by the far-right ideology” to execute the act.
“Everything points to the fact that the shooter was influenced by far-right ideology, a matter that will also be subject to investigation,” interior minister Marcin Kierwinski said at a news briefing. “Police officers are on-site, as are agents from the Internal Security Agency, both here at the scene and at the individual’s family home.”
Police also found three corpses, two women and a man, at the suspect’s residence in Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski.
“There are strong indications that they are members of his immediate family,” Prime Minister Donald Tusk said.
A local police spokesperson, Katarzyna Cislo,
described the suspect’s appearance and weapons.
“The shooter was wearing military-like clothes and used military weapons. Many … weapons and ammunition were found in his vehicle too,” Cislo said.
